Course Description
The course introduces students to energy systems management, with particular emphasis on Power-to-X technologies and the integration of Renewable Energy Sources with energy conversion and storage systems. It covers the basic operating principles of wind, photovoltaic, solar thermal, hydropower, geothermal and biomass systems, as well as electrolysis, green hydrogen, CO₂ utilization and biogenic carbon sources.
Applications of Power-to-Gas, Power-to-Liquids/Power-to-Fuels, Power-to-Ammonia and Power-to-Heat are examined alongside the main architectures of integrated energy systems. Through computational exercises using RETScreen Expert, students become familiar with the basic technical, economic and environmental assessment of Renewable Energy projects and integrated Power-to-X scenarios, with emphasis on energy efficiency, cost and emissions reduction.
