Title: Microbial Systems for Sustainable Biotechnologies

Abstract: 

The seminar will give insights into bioprocessing technologies for renewable energy production and waste valorization drawing on Dr. Güngörmüşler's expertise. Emphasis will be placed on biological hydrogen production from C1 gas using thermophilic bacteria, integrating circular economy principles and life cycle assessment (LCA) methodologies. Additional insights will be shared on the development of value-added bio-based products and biodegradable materials. The talk will also explore how strategic experimental design and systems analysis contribute to more sustainable and scalable biotechnological solutions.

Short Bio:

Dr. Mine Güngörmüşler is an Associate Professor of Bioengineering at Izmir University of Economics and co-founder of the deep-tech start-up HOPE Biotechnology which was established in 2022. Her academic journey spans Türkiye, Canada, Germany, Norway, Spain and Italy, with expertise in environmental microbiology, biohydrogen, probiotics, life cycle assessment, and sustainable bioprocesses. She is actively involved in international research networks such as COST Actions and has been recognized with fellowships, including at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Germany and IMDEA Energy, Spain.
