It supports the Laboratory Course
Chemical Engineering Lab II
and the teaching of the following term courses:
- Introduction to Chemical Engineering and the
- Chemical Industry
- Material and Energy Balances
- Chemical Reaction Engineering
- Chemical Reactor Design
- Environmental Protection Systems
Teaching includes tutorial work and computational projects.
Laboratory practice includes the study of: Catalytic reactors(fixed bed or rotating catalyst basket), heterogeneous non-catalytic chemical processes, catalyst pore structure measurements, and rotary kiln operating characteristics.
Main Research Activities are as follows:
- Catalyst characterization and preparation
- Oil residue HDS mechanisms
- Catalyst deactivation-regeneration processes
- Solid fuels (lignite) beneficiation-chemical conversion
- Hydrogen sulfide separation-conversion from gas product streams
- Automotive emission control-catalytic treatment
It should be noted that research activities refer to chemical processes in which indigenous raw materials are employed (i.e. Greek Crude Oil of Thassos, Megalopolis Lignite, etc.) and aim at the development of more efficient processes, in which particular attention is directed toward the protection of the environment.
Finally, the following areas fall whithin the research interests of the Chemical Process Laboratory research personnel:
- Use of solar energy for photochemical conversion
- Development of processes for the physicochemical and biological wastewater treatment
- Chemical process optimization and biochemical process engineering.
